  • Provided leadership to the President’s Postdoctoral Fellowship Program, with an emphasis on increasing participation in STEM fields.
  • Worked with the University Committee on Affirmative Action and Diversity to coordinate Faculty
    Senate and administrative efforts to promote diversity and inclusiveness.
  • Initiated a study on the status of women and underrepresented minorities in the health sciences.
  • Facilitated the development of recommendations to improve equity across the UC system.
  • Provided support to the Regents’ Study Group on University Diversity regarding the impact of Proposition 209 on students, faculty and campus climate.
  • Conducted background research on proposed policies affecting academic administrators.

Special Assistant to the President for Diversity Initiatives
Bennett College for Women, Greensboro, NC 9/05 – 10/06 
  • Worked closely with the president and senior leadership team of this historical college for black women to develop Bennett into a welcoming place for all women, regardless of race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, religious/spiritual beliefs, and (dis)ability.
  • Conducted focus groups and individual meetings with students, faculty, staff and alumnae to determine current climate for initiatives.
  • Developed recommendations and action steps for implementing programs to support Bennett’s vision for  itself.
  • Worked with Enrollment Services to facilitate the development of a strategic approach for the successful recruitment, matriculation and graduation of students not currently enrolled at Bennett.
  • Worked  with Institutional Advancement and the president on fundraising and development efforts in support of these initiatives.

Spelman College, Atlanta, GA. 1/03 - 6/05
  • Provided leadership for academic planning, programming and budgeting for the college, including twenty-three (23) departments and programs.
  • Oversaw a budget of $27 million. Working closely with department and program heads to align operational planning and management with the budget process.
  • Brought greater transparency to decision-making (e.g., budget process, sabbatical awards, curriculum approval).
  • Aligned the annual faculty evaluation process with criteria for tenure and promotion.
  • Established an annual pool of funds to support faculty scholarship.
  • Developed application process and facilitated the awarding of the new junior faculty research leave program.
  • Led faculty searches, appointed and provided orientation for the Vice Provost and the newly created position of Associate Provost of Research.
  • Provided direct oversight and leadership to the Office of Sponsored Programs until an Associate Provost of Research was hired. Sponsored Programs generated more than $10 million new dollars each year from 2003 through 2005.
  • Worked with the Faculty Welfare Committee and Human Resources to develop a faculty retirement incentive program.
  • Reorganized the department of Physical Education and Athletics into one entity to better meet the needs of students and institutional priorities; established four new full time faculty-coach positions for greater student engagement and support.
  • Facilitated a revision of curriculum committee policies for greater consistency, and supported the development of new majors and minors in the sciences and humanities.
  • Facilitated completion of the first approved faculty handbook since 1986.
  • In preparation for re-accreditation, led efforts to revise the program review process.
  • Staffed the Faculty Affairs and Educational Policy Committee of the Board of Trustees.
  • Led efforts to gain greater support from the Board of Trustees and a commitment for a new Arts building.

  • Led collaborative multi-department initiative to redesign both the undergraduate and graduate teacher preparation programs to align with the new state standards.
  • Led effort to create new post-baccalaureate teacher preparation programs.  
  • Redesigned the Master of Education programs to better prepare educators to function effectively in data-driven environments.
  • Served as the department representative to the Graduate Council.
  • Developed an advising system that improved student retention and graduation.
  • Implemented a mentor program for teacher preparation students with K-12 teacher leaders.
  • Led collaborative K-16 partnership that designed and implemented an academic enrichment program for high school students of color to encourage college attendance.
  • Managed grants to support programs totally nearly $1.18 million; served as lead or solo writer on grant applications that generated $180,000 in new funds.
